Miami-Dade County Is a Great Place to Raise a Puppy
Miami-Dade's parks and waterfront green spaces make it one of Florida's most exciting places for dog owners. Crandon Park on Key Biscayne offers miles of shaded trails and open lawns with stunning bay views. Matheson Hammock Park in Coral Gables features a calm tidal pool and shaded paths through native hardwood hammock — ideal for morning walks with your puppy.
A.D. Barnes Park in southwest Miami has a dedicated off-leash dog park with separate areas for large and small dogs. Tropical Park near Westchester draws families from across the county, and Amelia Earhart Park in Hialeah offers extensive trails and a popular dog-friendly atmosphere along the lake.

Miami-Dade County Dog Laws & Regulations
Here's what new dog owners in Miami-Dade County, FL need to know to stay compliant from day one.
Dog Licensing
All dogs four months of age and older must be licensed through Miami-Dade County Animal Services. Licenses must be renewed annually and proof of current rabies vaccination is required at registration. Licensing fees are lower for spayed and neutered dogs. A valid license tag must be worn on the dog's collar at all times.
Rabies Vaccination
Florida law requires all dogs to be vaccinated against rabies. Your puppy's vaccination schedule will be on the health certificate we provide. The first rabies shot is typically given at 12–16 weeks of age, with boosters as recommended by your vet. For state guidelines, visit the Florida Department of Health Rabies page.
Leash & Control Laws
Miami-Dade County ordinance requires all dogs to be on a leash no longer than six feet in public areas unless in a designated off-leash zone. Off-leash dog parks — including those at A.D. Barnes Park and Amelia Earhart Park — are the designated spaces for leash-free play. Always check posted signage before letting your puppy run free.
FL Pet Lemon Law
Florida's pet purchase protection law — Florida Statutes § 828.29 — requires puppies sold in Florida to be accompanied by a written health certificate from a licensed veterinarian. If a pre-existing condition is diagnosed within the first year, buyers have the right to a replacement puppy or reimbursement of veterinary costs. Our health guarantee meets and exceeds this standard.
